I begin this on a note of clarification in order to avoid misreading, and unfair interpretation. The views expressed here are 'personally personal'.
I'll like to be straight to the point here. For long, the igbos have clamored for inclusion, relevance and a place in the political equation of Nigeria, but it does' seem' to me, to be one project, unrealizable! The general view of the Igbos as "kingless'' for me, is seriously affecting us. If this is not the case, what then, can explain the fact that there's no prominent Igbo man, who we can 'project' as our leader?
This is in light of the somewhat tradition of governors and former governors of the Igbo extraction. They seem to engage in a struggle of relevance; popularity contest. The most recent of these series is the Anambra episode, where the former Governor, Peter Obi and the Present Governor Willie Obiano are seriously 'said' to be locked in political battle of wits.
I decided I would not make statements on the political problems or take sides with politicians especially as it concerns their political interest, because they lead the masses to war, and make a u-turn later(while the masses still fight on). But, I do think that it is worthwhile for us to look at the issue of Relevance of the Igbos in Nigerian political space.
I'm tired of reading about the political battles between Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and Dr. Theodore Orji, I'm sick of reading the online media row between Chief Peter Obi's men and Chief Obiano's men, the spirited manipulation and political bad belle raging in Ebonyi, Imo and Enugu States.
Although in politics, there are no permanent friends, but permanent interests, I do think that that of the igbos is long past interests and friendships.
'If' the claim of Chief Uzodike on the raging political row between Peter Obi and Obiano is true, then, we are in trouble. Chief Uzodike had claimed in the said interview that Obiano boasted that he will reduce Obi's popularity, he claimed that Obiano was in the scheme in blocking Obi's appointment as the minister of Aviation (although some other heavyweight has claimed he single-handedly blocked Obi's appointment).
The political battle between the duo has been raging seriously here in Facebook - APGA INTERACTIVE FORUM, for a long time. It's saddening that it's just a little over a year since there was a change of government in the state. My sadness is that apart from the interview granted by Obiano to vanguard where he said his 'problem with obi is ideological', both men are still to come clear on what's happening.
My last visit to the group APGA interactive forum here on Facebook made me feel the extent of the damage. The vicious and venomous attack by both camps have virtually turned the ordinary masses into 'ndi kwe na ndi ekweghi' to our own detriment.
The Ohaneze Ndigbo, Aka Ikenga and other Think Tank and concerned Igbos, should as a matter of urgency, address the issue of relevance of the Igbos in Nigeria, or else, the Igbos maybe landing themselves into political oblivion and extinction.
