UNDERCOVER BOSS; A TOUCHING EXPERIENCE!

Thanks to the Mobile Telephone Network (MTN), I set my hands with all concentration on my phone in search of a movie to download. As I went down the list, I saw this film, The Undercover Boss and I wanted to give it a try and it turned out to be one of the best choice of movies I have made.

The background of the movie was the economic recession in America, which caused some CEOs of multinational companies to the streets  as undercover employees to get first-hand information on the operational workability  of their companies. These men discovered so many things,  the good, the bad,  the beautiful and of course; the ugly.

This reminded me of the total disconnection between workers and their employers, between civil servants and their boss(es) and more especially between CEOs of conglomerates and the workers. I still remember one of my teachers in secondary school ringing it loud to our ears that "there is a difference between a formator and a formandi". These are daily  realities we live by.

Karl Marx captioned this ungodly act of creating  a wild chasm between the employer and the employee. During  his time, the common man as is observable today is the engine in the chain of production at the end of which he cannot buy what he has made with his own hands! And thus led him to propose revolution as a panacea. Whether revolution or communism be the answer, I am not to state since we are all in a free world but not an inhuman one.

Most of us would think that this applies only to the Dangotes and Ifeanyi Ubas,  without knowing that even in their immediate environment, they're maligning others through their direct and indirect actions. What explains why a contractor would not have sympathy and empathy on the labourers, who, although  they're paid for their work are not engines? What explanation can we give to a teachers action of not trying to understand with his or her students? What explanation can we give to the fact that a CEO gives an order from his air-conditioned office which will negatively affect the lives of millions of people? A government put in place for the common good of all in the pretext of a policy,  starts a very dubious action without plans on cushioning the effects of the policy; why?

Of course,  they have no options but to obey, they just have to do it and earn the money no matter how inconvenient it is. This is the reality of our world today.

I am not in any way implying that these men and women who take these decisions do make them out of bad will, far from it! Most times,  they do this out of goodwill maybe to improve  productivity or work ethics, but it becomes counter productive along the line.  The worst is that the advisers and publicists make things worse as they are concerned more of their pockets than telling their bosses the true situation on ground.

I would like to conclude by admonishing that if you ever have someone or some people under you,  whether you're a CEO, a priest, a manager,  a teacher,  a formator, a choir master,  a contractor,  CwO and CMO president,  a civil service  director or head of unit,  a governor  or president,  try to find out personally without  been told how persons who are under you feel and see if there is something you can do to put smiles on their faces.  This is a case for a life that is worth living.

Why not spare a time and watch a little  of the first episode  of the undercover Boss.
